Shape Up

Design done well can be a way to express and communicate ideas and feelings. Math is the universal language, and these new tile collections have learned their geometry lessons.

Walker Zanger’s Kaleidoscope Collection comprises porcelain tile inspired by the experimental and playful spirit of 1980s postmodern design. Featuring geometric shapes in a pastel palette of matte pink, greens and blues, Kaleidoscope gives designers permission to create playful, personalized patterns.

“Just like the geometric glass fractals of a kaleidoscope, this singular collection of tiles is meant to produce countless combinations of colors and compositions for a range of custom-tailored designs,” said Erika Egede-Nissen, director of marketing at Walker Zanger. “Kaleidoscope offers the opportunity to play with multidimensional color, or to take a minimal approach with glossy white tile and geometric patterns.”

Artaic’s Verge Collection

Artaic’s Verge Collection is a modern interpretation of traditional geometric patterns found in woven, beaded and block-printed textiles. “The collection’s name, Verge, is inspired by this convergence of modern execution and traditional design,” said Ted Acworth, CEO and founder of Artaic. “Artaic’s Glazed Porcelain has a fantastic durability that allows for a variety of tile sizes, design complexities, and application type. In focusing one collection on Glazed Porcelain, we are able to expand our offerings—giving clients an avenue to seamlessly match walls to floors, pool lining to pool decking, etc. For The Verge Collection, with the versatility of Glazed Porcelain in mind, we created a full range of stunning designs—from the abstract to the exact, in 130 colors.”

Marazzi’s D_Segni Color collection

Marazzi’s D_Segni Color collection reimagines encaustic tile for an exotic element in spaces. This 8×8 collection of glazed porcelain features three vibrant solid colors and four coordinating encaustic-inspired patterns, which can be mixed and matched for a rug-like quality.

Shelly Halbert, director, product design, Dal-Tile Corporation, said, “The new D_Segni Color collection brings its retro charm and bold colors to enhance the existing D_Segni and D_Segni Terrazzo collections.  All three collections take their inspiration from Venetian encaustics. Bold design is trending and what better way to express yourself than with color? The new D_Segni Color collection is all about color from its three solid cement inspired field tiles in Mustard, Tangerine & Indigo to its four unique, bold patterns that each coordinate with one of the solids. In short, all three collections were created to give designers a playground to create unique statements in any space.”
