SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA—Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants is set to open The Hotel Capistrano, a 102-room boutique property here. Slated for a summer 2018 opening, it will be the first hotel to be built in the city’s downtown historic district in more than 50 years.
Representing a $40-million dollar investment in the San Juan Capistrano Historic Town Center, the hotel will pay tribute to local area history and culture utilizing a mix of bold, graphic elements with intricacies of old Spanish decor, according to the company.
Owned and developed by Steve Oedekerk, a Hollywood writer/director, together with David Wood and Andrew Wood of Stratus Development Partners, the team has been working closely with the City of San Juan to bring a boutique hotel that resonates with the local area.
The property will have a Spanish Colonial design by architect Samir Hannouche, 102 luxury suites, a signature farm-to-table restaurant with outdoor patio dining, rooftop bar, pool area, the Amor Courtyard, executive fitness room, roof deck yoga and an eco-garden. Located on a 3.18-acre parcel adjacent to the Historic Town Center Park, the hotel sits in the heart of the downtown. It will be run and managed by Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants.
“The city initially came to me requesting that I redevelop the property to help local business and build vibrancy and pedestrian traffic in the downtown,” said Oedekerk, the property owner. “We raised our daughters here, so we have the most personal of attachments to San Juan, and there is no more fitting tribute to a uniquely awesome community so filled with history and character.”
“We look forward to our continued partnership with the City of San Juan Capistrano and our Hotel Capistrano grand opening,” said Mike DeFrino, Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants CEO. “The Hotel Capistrano is a design-driven, amenity-rich hotel that will embrace the rich cultural history and traditions of San Juan Capistrano. We look forward to delivering the best loved boutique hotel experience in South Orange County.”
