Watergate Hotel Reopening Slated for Summer

WASHINGTONNew York-based real estate developer Euro Capital Properties will reopen The Watergate Hotel in summer, following a $125 million renovation.

“We are proud to announce The Watergate Hotel in Washington, DC, as the first property of the Watergate Hotels & Resorts company, with more to come worldwide,” stated Jacques Cohen, principal, Euro Capital Properties.

Situated on the Potomac River and near the capital’s Georgetown neighborhood, The Watergate was originally designed by architect Luigi Moretti in 1961. Euro Capital Properties has tapped designer Ron Arad to complement the flowing, avant-garde architecture. In a nod to the hotel’s Italian heritage, Arad looked to sculptural, modern furnishings by Italian designer Moroso.

“The Watergate is undoubtedly one of the most glamorous and illustrious hotels in the world,” stated Rakel Cohen, director of design and development, Euro Capital Properties. “We have paid meticulous attention to every detail in its renovation. With luxurious amenities and exceptional service in tandem with the sophisticated aesthetic, we are excited to bring our vision to life and make this a truly spectacular property. Its intrigue is driven by evocative design, from the retro feel that we have infused to the mystique that lies behind every curve of the hotel’s architecture.”

The hotel will consist of 343 upscale guestrooms, 95% of which will feature views of the Potomac River, and approximately half of all guestrooms will have balconies. Guests will be able to enjoy multiple premier suites, including five Diplomat Suites and two Presidential Suites.

Each guestroom will feature marble bathrooms and cutting-edge technology. Additional guest amenities include 24-hour in-room dining, dry cleaning and full laundry services, complimentary shoeshine and a daily newspaper.

A casual restaurant will offer a bar, contemporary dining room, seasonally inspired menu and an outdoor patio overlooking the river. A fine-dining restaurant will showcase ingredient-driven American cuisine with a French twist. A whiskey bar and rooftop lounge also will be available.

The Watergate also will offer a spa and fitness facility and extensive meeting and event space.
