NOTTINGHAM, UNITED KINGDOM—The St James Hotel, located here in the historic castle quarter, will open on July 23.
Formerly the Rutland Square Hotel, the property has been completely refreshed. According to the hotel, it has been designed to be a “value boutique” space. Public areas were designed to be grand, yet contemporary, and feature chandeliers, restored pink marble floors and new furnishings. The hotel’s lounge and bar, No6, offers a library wall of over 400 books. The hotel also has several refurbished event spaces, the largest of which can cater for 200 guests. These rooms have views over Nottingham Castle.
Art in the hotel comes from local, young artists, and the property also features its own gallery, which will have regular events showcasing new talent.
The St James offers 87 guestrooms. The 650-sq.-ft. penthouse features burr walnut floors, antique furniture, a baby grand piano and even a television over the four-person hot tub.
The interior designer, Harjeet Johal, stated, “The brief was to create a truly unique hotel, which would stand apart from the local competitors as a property of character, style, service and value. I am confident that this has been achieved. I wanted to reintroduce the wonder of traveling and make the hotel a place of both delight and sanctuary. I am very proud that most of the sourcing has been from within a thirty mile radius of the hotel. It is a real showcase of local craftsmanship and produce.”
