Suomi Design Works adds leaders

Suomi Design Works, the Manhattan and Florida-based interior design firm led by President Michael Suomi, has welcomed three new additions as the firm celebrates four years of success and the opening of a new Florida office. The new hires include Creative Director Stephanie Reyer, Senior Interior Designer Carly Roberts and Interior Designer Spencer Butler.

“Suomi Design Works was created to meet the design needs of unique clients and hotels that truly redefine hospitality. Our new staff bring creativity from the worlds of fine art, cutting-edge museum technology, graphic design, and experience curation,” said Suomi. He continued, “Our new location in Florida brings us geographically closer to a multitude of clients and project sites.”

The new location and hires come as Suomi Design Works prepares for the opening of The Radical in Asheville, NC in October and an array of upcoming projects including another Asheville property based on the life of Zelda Fitzgerald, Hyatt Regency Jersey City and Red Jacket Beach Resorts.

As creative director, Reyer brings more than 25 years of experience developing award-winning exhibitions to the Suomi Design Works team. She began her career at the American Museum of Natural History, where she was responsible for the design of three permanent hall renovations, including the iconic Hall of Ocean Life. Reyer first worked with Michael Suomi in 2004 on the creation of a museum of rivers for the Heinz Foundation in Pittsburgh and has remained a colleague and collaborator since.

Carly Roberts, senior interior designer
Bringing a sensible design perspective that stems from the combination of her Scandinavian roots and Midwestern upbringing, Roberts joins the team as senior interior designer. Roberts was formerly an Interior Designer with DHD Architecture PC, working on notable projects across both the residential and hospitality sectors, such as the ground-up construction of a home in Quogue, NY, and The Navy Yard Hotel in Brooklyn, NY.

Spencer Butler, interior designer
Spencer Butler joins the Suomi Design Works team as interior designer. She formerly held the title of project manager and interior designer at Alexander Interiors, a residential design firm in Nashville, working on both renovation and new construction projects for high-end homes. Prior to her time at Alexander Interiors, she honed her expertise at Traci White Designs in Dallas. Butler graduated from The University of Alabama where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Interior Design.
