LONDON—Small Luxury Hotels of the World has added three new hotels, with two opening this summer—Karuizawa Prince Hotel East in Karuizawa, Japan; Severin’s – The Alpine Retreat in Lech am Arlberg, Austria; and Mr. and Mrs. White New Style Hotel in Paros, Greece.
Set to open this month, the new 70-room Karuizawa Prince Hotel East in Karuizawa, Japan, is situated in the Karuizawa Mountains, accessible by the Shinkansen bullet train. It blends nature and luxury with green interiors that reflect the forest outside. Many rooms will offer complimentary access to the Karuizawa Prince Hotel East Forest Hot Spring, with indoor and open-air baths fed by natural springs. Other activities will include climbing wall experiences and stargazing with the Nature Kids Forest House or nearby boutiques and golf clubs. At the on-site restaurant chefs will prepare Shinshu ingredients for shared plates in the open kitchen and offer a taste of modern Japan in the glass-fronted teppanyaki hot plate bar.
In Lech am Arlberg, Austria, Severin’s – The Alpine Retreat is scheduled to open between December 2017 and April 2018. A new take on the mountain chalet, Severin’s has design elements such as ancient Tyrolean wood, stone and copper and with interiors by Richard Strasser. A handful of exclusive suites will pair alpine lodge hygge (pronounced hoo-gah)—hygge is the Danish term for creating cozy surroundings—with high-end Minotti furnishings, Wittmann beds and upgraded technology.
Open since June, the Mr. and Mrs. White New Style Hotel sits on the edge of Náoussa, a traditional Greek village, in Paros, Greece. Visual features include curved, whitewashed stone walls that arch over winding, polygonal-paved streets. The hotel is a mix of Cycladic design and contemporary touches. White-on-white minimalism and driftwood-style beds channel attention to the views from each room’s private garden or balcony across the gardens and Náoussa’s whitewashed houses and blue domes.
