NEW YORK, NY—Today, Novotel New York Times Square is unveiling THE renovation of its centrally located address with an $85-million revamp financed by the owners, the real-estate asset management companies Chartres Lodging Group LLC, Apollo Global Management LLC and Lubert-Adler Partners. Led by the design firm Stonehill & Taylor, the complete renovation of Accor’s Novotel brand’s North American flagship creates an inviting ambiance in the heart of the city, according to the brand.
Novotel New York Times Square is the first hotel in Times Square to undergo a large-scale redesign in quite some time. The renovation is designed to reposition the hotel for young, fresh, hip and edgy clientele that are drawn to the city for both business and leisure pursuits.
“We’re thrilled to debut the ‘new’ Novotel New York today, and look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests to experience an unrivaled view of Times Square,” stated Marc Sternagel, general manager. “The revived look of the hotel, combined with SuperNova restaurant and our stunning Terrace, offers locals and visitors alike a reason to create their own New York memories.”
Stonehill & Taylor’s design work starts at the West 52nd Street entrance and carries through to the new Supernova restaurant and outdoor Terrace on the 7th floor.
The redesign of the lobby is inspired by the concepts of celebration and passage of time, both envisioned in reference to the pop culture and New Year’s Eve in Times Square, according to the firm. The lobby space features stylish seating and constant imagery flashing on LCD flat screens.
The hotel arrival experience features ambient sound, video art, and materials and lighting that surrounds guests upon entry and takes them to their rooms. Computer-controlled, hexagonal LED ceiling panels glow in different colors, complementing changing music and sounds throughout the day. The renovation further integrates the lobby and 7th floor public spaces into a fluid space with views of Times Square.
The hotel’s outdoor Terrace is sets the hotel apart from others in the neighborhood, featuring 5,700 sq. ft. of social space seven floors off the ground. Walkways, tables for bar service, colorful foliage and fire pits are featured in this outdoor space.
Reflecting the location of Novotel New York in the heart of the Theater District, SuperNova features a contemporary design and offers traditional American comfort food and classic American cocktails with an international twist. The restaurant experience will further be enhanced by the hotel’s partnership with Doughnuttery. This New York-based purveyor of “hot, fresh, uniquely sugared treats” serves miniature ringed delights from a “Doughnut Dip Trolley” cart equipped with sauces for dipping.
Each of Novotel New York’s 480 guestrooms was refashioned in keeping with the hotel brand’s contemporary “Next Room” design theme. Anchored by the backlit headboard of a duvet-covered bed, rooms offer sleek furnishings, clean lines and vibrant colors. New features include decorative lighting, 46-in. flat-screen TVs, WiFi access, iPad docking stations, and soundproof windows that open and close. Modern bathrooms are furnished with steel surfaces glass showers.
